One of the most beautiful of Africa’s national parks, with a remarkable diversity of habitats and wildlife, Manyara is nevertheless small by African standards, covering just 330km2, of which about two thirds is lake. Many visitors don’t spend more than a few hours in Lake Manyara National Park as the wildlife numbers aren’t as high as elsewhere, but if you have the time and the patience a safari here can turn up some wonderful and unexpected safari experiences. You’ll enter the park through a shady forest, where giant fig and mahogany trees are sustained by perennial groundwater springs. Home to shy troops of blue monkeys and a haven to buffalo and giraffe, this forest is a unique habitat.Emerging onto the plains around Lake Manyara and at the foot of the picturesque Rift Valley escarpment you’ll begin to see more grazers – herds of elephant, zebra and giraffe, warthog families and groups of gazelle.
A day trip to Lake Manyara National Park is an exciting chance to get a feel for the real Africa. One of Africa's premier birding destinations, it's also a fantastic place to see Africa's most iconic animals from massive elephants and Cape buffalo to the famous tree-climbing lions who call the park home.
After breakfast you are met by our professional tour guide/driver, who will deliver a short safari info briefing, after which we travel west to the Great Rift Valley and the Lake Manyara National Park. We will travel through the agricultural and fresh produce market town of MtoWaMbu, which is situated next to the entrance of the Lake Manyara National Park. The town is a souvenir hunters paradise, harboring thousands souvenir salesmen – ready to pounce at your slightest invitation. The Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located African wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s densely populated African elephants herds, Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos, attracted by the algae in the lake. We will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park and do two exciting morning and afternoon game drives, in search of the tree-climbing lions. Late afternoon we depart for Arusha/Moshi from Lake Manyara where we will end our safari adventure. You will be taken to your hotel, which ends our tour packages services.
